Chris began his dancing journey in 2008 while in college (Texas A&M University-Whoop!). As the original creator of Red Dirt Dancing in 2018, he used the Facebook page to review local dancehalls and document his dancing journey as he attended group lessons and competed all over Texas and beyond! Sarah's dancing journey also began in college (Where you ask? Also, Texas A&M University-Whoop!) but didn't begin taking off until late 2019/early 2020 when she was connected with the local Austin, Texas dance community. The two met while dancing (of course!) and began their journeys together in mid-2020.

With their roots in the dancehalls and technique from the studios, Chris and Sarah Ivey of Red Dirt Dancing mix fun with finesse to their dance. As of October 2025, the duo have taught over 3,000 + group and private lessons, performed at multiple shows, hosted multiple competitions, featured on local TV and Radio, organized several corporate events, performed at numerous festivals, perfected hundreds of wedding dances, been featured in over 10 popular country music videos, choreographed a movie "Side Step", and travelled across the United States and Canada helping communities cultivate their dance scenes.

Chris and Sarah have been trained by numerous World Champion dancers in many different styles of dance and firmly believe in life-long learning!

With over 100+ dance wins combined in Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Arizona, Chris and Sarah enjoy competing in dancehall-style competitions the most.

It wasn’t long until she would fill in as sub and in early 2007 took over full-time where she had her first lesson. One night of dancing wasn’t enough and Jena found herself adding teaching nights each week at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and then at Overtyme in Waterford MI where she continues to teach each Wednesday.  2022 presented a partnership with The HUB Stadium Novi to offer monthly Friday dance parties! As excitement grew in the area a new weekly class emerged spotlighting instructor Jordan “Boot Scootin’” Billet.  Spreading the love for line dance, Jena enjoys teaching in many capacities from her weekly classes, 1-1 private lessons, corporate events, even large festivals/fairs such as Faster Horses Festival in Brooklyn MI where she has instructed since 2017.  Jena loves to choreograph as well! She has had the honor of working with many local musician friends including RJ Harper, Rob Stone (What I got) and The Family Tradition Band (Whiskey Shakedown). Some of her more well-known choreography includes Last Night (w/ co choreographer Jordan “Boot Scootin’” Billet), Southbound, Creek Will Rise and Halfway to Hell.
